Born in the town of Orsha, part of the Russian Empire but what is now present day Belarus. Started off originally learning law but later in life got invite to partake in research at the Psychological Institute in Moscow. He attended the Moscow State University and Shaniavkii Open University. Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky was known for his work in developmental psychology. Vygotsky proposed a theory of development in higher cognitive functions in children that saw reasoning emerging through practical activity in a social environment. Also he is known for his concept of Zone of Proximal Development often refer to the way in which the acquisition of new knowledge is dependent on previous learning as well as the availability of instruction. |
